Fake Text Messages on Mobile Phones

Did you ever wonder how text messages are stored on mobile phones?
And what if someone could plant fake text messages on a mobile phone using a computer?
Wouldn’t it be great to play a prank on a friend if we could do the same?

So here I declare a way to import fake Short Messages on your Sony-Ericsson Mobile Phones! (Only Sony-Ericsson for now, more to come)

The given operation is not a hack. PLEASE Please and please!!! Don’t use it for any unfair or illegal means. I’ve only tried to demonstrate the operation to prove that messages can be planted in a mobile and a person should be aware of this fact. So that the reader does not get duped by unscrupulous persons or anti-social elements using the given operation for illegal purposes. You are also requested to read the Site Disclaimer.

Okay, here we go….

The Toolkit:

1> Software named MyPhoneExplorer which is completely free to download and use! (I use version 1.6). You can download it from here (It’s the official link).

2> your phone of course, It has to be a model supported by MyPhoneExplorer. Check the above site for more details.

3> A simple Text editor on your computer. I.e. Notepad / WordPad (Abiword, if you use Linux)

Operation Fake sms:

First install MyPhoneExplorer on your computer. Connect your phone either using the data cable or Bluetooth port or infrared. Start MyPhoneExplorer. Let it connect your device and synchronize all information.

Now click on ‘Messages’ section on the left. You’ll see all your inbox messages on the right. Just above them, you’ll see many icons. Click on the new message icon. (It’s the one on extreme right). There will be a popup asking for the no. and content of this new sms. Type in the text of the message in the given respective field. Leave the recipients no. as blank. I’ve chosen ‘War$nake is the freakiest blogger in the world.’ Now save the message as draft by clicking on the ‘Save as Draft’ button. This message will be saved in your phone’s ‘Drafts’ folder in messages.

Now on the dropdown menu below messages (on the left) click on the drafts link. You’ll see all your drafts from the phone along with the new message you created. Right Click the message we just created. Click on Export/Import – Export selected messages. Let the type remain as (*.sms) and save it to your desired location by the name ‘1.sms’. Exit MyPhoneExplorer.

Now go to this saved message. Make sure that you are able to view extensions of known file types. If not go to Tools – Folder Options. Click on View and uncheck the box next to ‘Hide extensions for known file types’. Apply and OK.

Right Click the file ‘1.sms’ and choose ‘Open with’ and choose Notepad. Once it opens in notepad, you’ll see a string of numbers and letters with some commas in between.

I’d chosen ‘War$nake is the freakiest blogger in the world.’ So, my file contents are as follows:

2,00110000810000FF2FD7B05CE00
EAFCBA0F41C44479741667939BC4E
97E7749098FD3E9FCB7250DA0DA2A
3CBA0FB5BCE26BB00,19022008184212v

(The given code should all be in one single line. I’ve cut it so that it can be seen completely on this post.)

Here 2 denotes the message folder ‘Outbox’. Ignore the fourteen characters after the first comma and copy the rest of the contents up to the second comma. For this example it will be:

FF2FD7B05CE00EAFCBA0F41C4447
9741667939BC4E97E7749098FD3E9F
CB7250DA0DA2A3CBA0FB5BCE26BB00

Here FF is the length of user data as shown later. While writing other sms, you may get different letters. Now create another file 2.txt and paste the copied characters in it.

Lets see how our inbox sms should be written

1:- inbox
,
07:- Length of SMS Center information
91:- Type of SMS Center address
19:- 91 India’s code
89 78 56 34 12:- 9887654321 (SMS Center no.)
04:- First octet of this sms-deliver message
OC:- Length of Sender’s address
91:- Type of address of sender’s no.
19:- 91 India’s code
9921436587:- 9912345678 (Sender’s no.)
00:- Protocol identifier
00:- Type of Data Encoding
702162:- 26/12/07 (Date of receiving sms)
617335:- 16:37:53 (Time of receiving sms)
FF:- Length of sms matter (user data)
2FD7B05CE00EAFCBA0F41C44479741667
939BC4E97E7749098FD3E9FCB7250DA0D
A2A3CBA0FB5BCE26BB00
:- 7bit encoded sms matter (user data)
,
19022008:- 19/02/2008 (Date of sms written)
184212:- 18:42:12 (Time of sms written)
v

So the complete set of characters becomes

1,0791198978563412040C91199921436587
0000702162617335FF2FD7B05CE00EAFC
BA0F41C44479741667939BC4E97E7749098
FD3E9FCB7250DA0DA2A3CBA0FB5BCE26
BB00,19022008184212v

You can change various parameters according to your will. Be sure to change country codes, sms center nos. (U can take from any of your existing sms), Sender’s no. Date and type of sms. Save the file.

Now rename this file 2.txt to 2.sms and double click on it. MyPhoneExplorer will open this file in ‘Archive (computer)’ folder in messages. Here you should see your sms as an inbox message from the given no. with the required message. Right click on this sms. Choose on Copy to Phone – Inbox. Now synchronize your phone. The sms should be in your inbox.

My phone shows a sms received with the following information:

SMSC: +919887654321
Sender: +919912345678
Time Stamp: 26/12/07 16:37:53
TP_PID: 00
TP_DCS: 00
TP_DCS-popis: Uncompressed Text
class: 0
Alphabet: Default
Content of sms:
War$nake is the freakiest blogger in the world.
Length:47

Hurrah, Mission Accomplished!

I’ve tried it on many Sony Ericsson phones. It’s bound to work on all phones that can be connected to MyPhoneExplorer. Also there are other such programs that allow you to do similar hacks. I’ll post some links when I find any.

And Please post comments on how you found this post. Let me know if you like it. Any issues or similar ideas and links can also be posted by comments. I’ll reply to any grievance posted here. If it’s a serious issue, please mail me at totewar.sanket@gmail.com

  1. P.S.

Sometimes you may get an error message – “The selected file contains no messages!” Don’t panic. That means the sms needs encoding. In this case, export an sms from your inbox to your hard-drive and replace its contents with the above code. Import it and it’ll work fine.

  2. Awsome Mate. You are a true genius.

  3. actually, what i am doing is finding now a software i had once on a nokia phone. i think it was called EZSMS or FaKESMS or sumthin. twas a long long time ago and i long since gave up on nokia coz the phone crashes more than my windows pc does. hahahaha. yep, still in the search for the same type of software for my K810, my wife’s K850, and my mum’s K800. yep. we are all hardcore SE fans now.
